New Asian Fusion in Palm Springs: JIAO

This past Saturday evening we went out to dinner with some new friends that we met here in Palm Springs and we wanted to try the newest restaurant venture from Tara Lazar and Marco Rossetti called JIAO. JIAO is translated from Chinese to mean “a Chinese dragon.”  This hospitality duo brought my favorite breakfast spot, Cheeky’s to Palm Springs as well as Birba where my partner Jose will be celebrating his 50th birthday next month and the Hotel Alcazar which gives Uptown Design District lovers a great place to rest their heads after a long day of shopping in this hip neighborhood.  JIAO is an Asian fusion restaurant with influences from across the continent.  The new space which is located near the ever popular Koffi has sleek indoor bar seating and an outdoor patio to dine al fresco under the desert stars.

JIAO, 515 North Palm Canyon Drive, Suite B-10, Palm Springs, CA

We started off with Chicken Satay and Imperial Rolls…Imperial Rolls were our favorite from this course.

We then enjoyed the Glass Noodle with Shrimp Salad, Fried Chicken, Shaking Beef, Miso Corn and Stir Fried Eggplant…Shaking Beef is reminiscent of Bo Luc Lac which is my all-time favorite Vietnamese dish.  The chicken was excellent and the eggplant and corn were outstanding.

We did manage to save a bit of room for desert.  Mango with Sticky Rice and Coconut Pandon Panna Cotta.  I am a sucker for Mango with Sticky Rice and it was a great way to finish off a wonderful evening.

A great effort on Day 2 of JIAO.  We loved the food and we all enjoyed our time with Candace, our server who was working hard to master the food descriptions and wine selections.  And, who doesn’t like to eat under the stars in the desert?

Good luck Tara and Marco – we look forward to our next visit where we already have made a list of other dishes that we want to try!

  1. It all was delicious and recommend everything we had but by far my favorite was the Shaking Beef. we cannot wait to go back and try other things from the diverse menu which has something for everyone. Wait for a table outside because the desert evenings this time of year are glorious. Thanks David for sharing your gourmet delights with everyone.
